Manchester has a pretty justifiable claim to be both the music and student capital of the UK. So it was only a matter of time before these two great foundations in the city got it together and The Manchester College announced new music industry courses to be hosted at award-winning venue Band on the Wall.
On 29th May the new partnership announced the courses in true Mancunian style with a mini music festival in the city’s Sackville Gardens. Showcasing live sets by the cream of the city’s new bands - including D-Starr, Skint, Serenity and Lady T - the event was hosted by local music celebs Craig Charles and Terry Christian.
“It was a great day and the perfect way to kick off these exciting new courses. For anyone serious about building a career in the music industry these courses taking place in an internationally-respected, professional music venue offer a real opportunity to make that dream a reality” Gavin Sharp, CEO, Band on the Wall
Speaking about the courses announced on the day, John Thornhill, Chief Executive of The Manchester College Group, said: “This is a unique opportunity for our students to gain real life experience whilst developing the skills needed to work in the music industry. The educational and professional development these courses offer will prove invaluable when students look for employment in the sector.”
Band on the Wall has been voted the city’s best small venue 4 years in a row and its partnership with The Manchester College will allow students a unique hand-on opportunity to develop the skills needed to work in the music industry by learning in an actual professional music-making environment.
Based in the creative Northern Quarter, and at the heart of Manchester's cosmopolitan music scene, Band on the Wall is a legendary venue which has played host to many great names from across the musical spectrum.
